Administer Global Backup Environments (Consultant)

Experience managing enterprise backup environments with a heterogeneous client base and multiple global sites with time dependencies. Experience with Legato Networker and modules (e.g. Exchange, NDMP, and SnapImage). Experience with IBM Tivoli Storage Management (TSM).Significant experience with Unix/Linux operating systems Understanding of tape pools, tape retention, backup levels (full, differential, incremental)Experience managing media, i.e. recalling from offsite, maintaining tape pools across instances and storage nodes. Ability to use and perform basic health checks on multiple OS types: Solaris, Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, Linux, and AIX.Experience with networking and maintaining multi-homed machines. Ability to script (shell-scripting, Perl, VBscript, etc)

.Principal Responsibilities Identify and troubleshoot failing clients. Rerun clients after troubleshooting to ensure proper remediation. Issue and track escalations to clients’ system administrators. Identify and notify on slow, chronically failing, or unreasonably large clients Coordinate with tape librarians to manage media: ensure adequate tape pools for every backup cycle; coordinate tapes recalled for restore; identify timeframes for ordering new media. Prepare infrastructure for nightly/weekly backup cycle. Properly schedule clients according to each instance’s capacities. Pre-load blank tapes. Troubleshoot failing drives. Set tape pool and backup level. Off-hours backup support. Monitor infrastructure during the backup cycle for each global site. Ensure infrastructure is running at maximum efficiency. Identify bottlenecks and need for additional capacity. Provide central restore service. Restore NDMP and non-NDMP data via ticketing system. Provide remote access to SAs. Coordinate tape recall and hardware availability for large restore efforts.
